Equipment Operator

Job Description

Caltrans is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator to join our Operations and Maintenance Division. The successful candidate will operate heavy machinery used in road construction and maintenance projects, ensuring safety and efficiency. This role involves a combination of operating equipment and performing manual labour.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate heavy machinery for road construction and maintenance.
• Ensure that all equipment is maintained and in good working condition.
• Understand and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Participate in workforce training and development programs.
• Assist in creating and maintaining safe work practices.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Coordinate with project managers and team members to meet project objectives.
• Handle materials and assist other trades as necessary.
• Perform regular checks on equipment to ensure safety.
• Help maintain a safe and clean job site.

Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• Previous experience in highway maintenance or construction preferable.

Languages

• English: Fluent
