Yard Switcher

Job Description

As a Yard Switcher, you will be responsible for moving trailers within the yard, ensuring safe and efficient loading and unloading operations, while maintaining a tidy work area. You'll play a crucial role in our logistics chain, collaborating closely with our drivers and warehouse personnel to ensure seamless operations.

Responsibilities

• Use a yard tractor to efficiently move trailers within the yard.
• Ensure that trailers are loaded and unloaded in accordance with safety protocols.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on yard equipment.
• Ensure yard cleanliness and organization are upheld to the highest standard.
• Engage in clear communication with the logistics team to facilitate smooth operations.
• Execute all movements in a timely manner while prioritizing safety.
• Assist with the training of new staff in yard operations.
• Document all yard movements accurately.
• Maintain flexibility to work different shifts, including nights and weekends as necessary.

Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

• 1-2 years of experience as a Yard Switcher or similar role

Technical Skills

• Yard Tractor Operation
• Safety Protocols

Soft Skills

• Attention to Detail
• Communication

Certifications

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Forklift Operation Certification: Additional certification for operating forklifts in the yard.
• Experience with Refrigerated Trailers: Familiarity with handling refrigerated trailers and their specific needs.
