Job Description

An exhibit preparator is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and dismantling of exhibits in museums and galleries. Key to this role is a keen attention to detail, alongside excellent organisational skills. You'll work closely with curators and other staff to ensure that each exhibit is a success.

Responsibilities

  • Work with curators to plan exhibit layouts and design installations.
  • Monitor the condition of displayed items and ensure they are properly cared for.
  • Conduct training for new team members on handling artworks and installation techniques.
  • Liaise with vendors for the purchase and maintenance of exhibit-related materials.
  • Utilise health and safety regulations to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Assist in public engagement activities related to exhibitions.
  • Provide feedback on exhibit success and areas for improvement.
  • Support the development of promotional materials for upcoming exhibitions.
  • Help facilitate the transportation of travelling exhibits.
  • Engage with visitors to answer questions about exhibits.

Advantageous

  • Experience with digital media: Ability to incorporate interactive media into exhibits for enhanced visitor engagement.
  • Knowledge of audio-visual systems: Experience with setting up and troubleshooting AV equipment for exhibitions.
