Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Volcanologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for studying volcanoes and their activity, as well as assessing the potential risks and impacts of volcanic eruptions. You will conduct fieldwork, analyse data, and collaborate with other scientists to inform communities about volcanic hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ongoing monitoring of active volcanoes and interpret geophysical data.
  • Develop risk assessments related to volcanic hazards.
  • Engage with local communities on disaster preparedness.
  • Collaborate with international volcanology teams.
  • Utilise GIS and remote sensing tools for data collection.
  • Prepare educational materials on volcanic activity for various audiences.
  • Lead field trips and training sessions for staff and students.
  • Contribute to grant proposals for funding volcanic research.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of volcanic activity.
  • Participate in governmental advisory panels on disaster planning.

Requirements

Education
  • Master's degree in Volcanology or related field
Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in volcanic research or a related field.
