Job Description

As a Licensed Guide Dog Instructor, you will train and instruct guide dogs to assist visually impaired individuals in navigating their surroundings. You will use your expertise in dog training techniques while understanding the unique needs of visually impaired people.

Responsibilities

  • Implement training programs focusing on obedience, socialisation, and public access.
  • Educate visually impaired individuals about the benefits and responsibilities of guide dog ownership.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of guide dogs throughout their training.
  • Develop training schedules and tailor programs to individual needs.
  • Assist in community outreach efforts and public demonstrations.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and guidelines.
  • Provide feedback and reports to management on training progress.
  • Foster relationships with community partners to enhance training opportunities.
  • Advocate for the rights of visually impaired individuals using guide dogs.

Requirements

Education
  • License/accreditation as a Guide Dog Instructor from a recognised organisation.
  • Degree in Psychology or a related discipline is beneficial.
Experience
  • Experience working with visually impaired individuals is highly desirable.
