Job Description

As a Switchboard Operator for the Metropolitan Police, you will be the first line of communication for our community. You will be responsible for managing a high volume of incoming calls, directing them to appropriate departments, and ensuring efficient handling of emergency and non-emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct incoming calls efficiently to ensure quick response times.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency communications effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of all communications for accountability.
  • Perform data entry and other administrative tasks as required.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to the public.
  • Utilize radio technology for communication with police officers.
  • Coordinate with various departments to facilitate smooth operations.

Requirements

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in telecommunications or call centre operations is advantageous
Experience
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar role
Technical Skills
  • PABX switchboard systems
  • Radio communication systems
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
Certifications
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR Certification
Languages
  • English: Fluent

Advantageous

  • Fluency in additional languages: Being able to communicate in multiple languages is a plus.
  • Experience in emergency services: Relevant experience in dispatch or similar roles is advantageous.
