Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Developmental Disabilities Specialist to join our team. As a specialist, you will be responsible for providing support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their well-being and promoting their independence.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments to establish individual support needs and aspirations.
  • Draft and execute tailored care plans alongside clients and their families.
  • Facilitate daily living activities, enhancing clients' functional independence.
  • Promote social integration and engagement through structured activities.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to improve client outcomes.
  • Record and report on client progress and adapt care strategies as required.
  • Encourage clients to develop essential life skills through practical support.
  • Host family meetings to discuss care strategies and share updates.
  • Research local resources for developmental disabilities advocacy.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to refine skills.

Requirements

Education
  • Relevant Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field
  • Professional certifications in developmental disabilities support are desirable
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of person-centered approaches
  • Behavioral management techniques

  • Empathy and compassion
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Effective communication

Advantageous

  • Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques: Proven ability to manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Knowledge of local and national resources for individuals with developmental disabilities: Familiarity with services available to support individuals.
