Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Prison Psychiatrist to join our team within the UK correctional system. As a Prison Psychiatrist, you will be responsible for conducting mental health assessments and providing diagnoses and treatment plans for inmates. Your role is crucial in ensuring the proper mental health care and rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mental health assessments and develop treatment plans for incarcerated individuals.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to identify key mental health needs.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and crisis management.
  • Engage in continual professional learning regarding correctional mental health issues.
  • Ensure documentation of all patient interactions and treatment updates are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Lead training and educational sessions for staff regarding mental health awareness.
  • Review and assess the effectiveness of treatment plans regularly.
  • Advocate for inmate mental health needs within the prison system.
  • Collaborate with external mental health professionals when necessary.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to plan developments.

Requirements

Education
  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
  • Additional training in forensic psychiatry is advantageous
Experience
  • Experience working in a forensic or correctional setting is highly desirable.
