Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Sheep Herder to ensure the safe and efficient management of our sheep flock. This role is physically demanding and requires excellent animal handling skills, along with a strong understanding of sheep behaviour.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily care and management of sheep, ensuring optimal health and welfare.
  • Conduct regular health checks and vaccinations of the flock.
  • Implement effective pasture management techniques to maintain grazing areas.
  • Lead and train any less experienced team members in animal handling.
  • Document and manage records of health, treatments, and feeding schedules.
  • Engage with local veterinary services for health assessment and treatment plans.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to promote sustainable farming practices.
  • Assist with the planning of seasonal tasks and sheep shows or sales.
  • Uphold safety regulations and good environmental practices on the farm.
  • Be an advocate for animal welfare in all operations.

Requirements

Education
  • Knowledge and understanding of animal welfare regulations
Experience
  • Experience with sheepdog training and handling.
