Job Description

A Museum Technician is responsible for the preservation, maintenance, and operation of exhibits and artifacts in our museum. The ideal candidate will ensure the safe handling, storage, and display of items to promote an engaging visitor experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe handling and care of artifacts during transport and exhibition setups.
  • Assist with public engagement activities to educate visitors about artifacts and exhibitions.
  • Develop conservation plans for specific artifacts in collaboration with the conservation team.
  • Participate in the digital cataloguing of artifacts for improved accessibility and research.
  • Coordinate with external professionals for specialized conservation treatments when needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Engage in community outreach programs to promote understanding of museum practices.
  • Monitor the environmental conditions of exhibition and storage areas.
  • Assist in the documentation and archiving of museum events and activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team to ensure exhibit stability and safety.

Requirements

Education
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in the museum sector
  • Master's degree in Museum Studies or related field is preferred.
Experience
  • Experience in preventive conservation practices.
Technical Skills
  • Technical proficiency
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations
