Job Description

As a Dresser, you will play a vital role in assisting with wardrobe and costume changes during live performances. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail and excellent time management skills, ensuring that each actor is ready on time. Your creativity and organisational skills will help maintain the high standard of our productions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee costume transitions during live shows while maintaining a swift pace.
• Work with designers to ensure costumes meet production standards.
• Perform maintenance checks on costumes and alert management of any issues.
• Assist in the overall aesthetics and presentation of costumes on stage.
• Participate in team meetings to strategize costume logistics.
• Help train new wardrobe assistants in procedures and practices.
• Manage quick changes and ensure actors are ready for their next scene.
• Document any alterations made to costumes for future reference.
• Assist with the design and implementation of costume displays.

Requirements

Education

• GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths
• Diploma or degree in Theatre Costume or related subject

Experience

• Prior experience in a theatre wardrobe department or related role is essential.

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of sewing and costume construction techniques
• Costume inventory software proficiency (e.g., CostumePro)

Soft Skills

• Attention to detail
• Time management
• Teamwork

Advantageous

• Experience with period costumes: Knowledge and skill in handling historical attire.
• Experience with costume dyeing and distressing: Ability to alter the appearance of costumes for authenticity.
• Experience with wig and make-up application: Understanding and application of stage make-up techniques.
