Job Description

As a Bridge and Lock Tender, you'll be responsible for ensuring the safe passage of pedestrians and vehicles at designated crossings. This pivotal role is essential for maintaining public safety and preventing accidents in crossing areas.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of railway crossings.
  • Communicate with train drivers to coordinate crossing operations.
  • Open and close crossing gates or barriers as required.
  • Monitor approaching trains using signalling systems and visual inspections.
  • Ensure pedestrians comply with crossing rules and regulations.
  • Report issues or malfunctions to the Railway Crossing Supervisor.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Assist in training new Crossing Tenders on safety procedures.
  • Participate in team meetings to review safety procedures.
  • Engage with the public to promote safe crossing practices.

Requirements

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
  • Previous experience in public safety or transportation-related roles would be advantageous.
Technical Skills
  • Two-way radio skills

Languages
