Surgical First Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our surgical team. In this role, you will assist the surgical staff before, during, and after procedures, ensuring all aspects of the operation run smoothly. Your expertise will be crucial in providing optimal patient care.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and clean operating rooms and ensure all instruments are available.
• Assist in prepping patients, including ensuring they are comfortable and correctly positioned.
• Provide instruments and equipment to the surgeon during surgery.
• Keep the operating area sterile throughout procedures.
• Perform suturing and dressing under the supervision of the surgeon.
• Support recovery staff in patient transfers after surgery.
• Maintain accurate records of all surgical activities and procedures.
• Work with surgical teams to enhance patient safety and operation efficiency.
• Follow strict guidelines for infection control.
• Engage in ongoing training for skills enhancement.

Requirements

Education

• Certification as a Surgical First Assistant
• Completion of an accredited Surgical First Assistant training program

Experience

• A minimum of 3 years' experience in surgical assistance.

• Robotic Surgery Assistance

Languages

• English: Fluent

Advantageous

• Experience with robotic-assisted surgical procedures: Hands-on proficiency with robotic systems during surgery.
• Understanding of electronic medical record (EMR) systems: Experience in using EMR systems for patient documentation and care.
