Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Canal Tender to oversee the maintenance and operation of canals in the UK. As a Canal Tender, you will be responsible for conducting routine checks, managing water flow, and ensuring the safe navigation of vessels.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough inspections of canal infrastructure and equipment.
• Collaborate with local authorities and environmental groups to maintain waterway standards.
• Respond promptly to navigational hazards and assist boat operators as needed.
• Oversee the operation of locks and weirs to maintain proper water levels.
• Prepare detailed reports on maintenance activities and operational issues.
• Lead educational workshops to inform the public about waterway management.
• Implement safety measures to protect both users and the environment.

Requirements

Education

• Vocational qualification in water management, civil engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• Prior experience in canal operations, maintenance, or similar roles is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

• Understanding of canal operations and maintenance procedures
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and GIS software

Soft Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities

Languages

• English: Fluent
